18.01 miles. Because I'm an overachiever.
18 mile run - CHECK! As of approximately 11:15am yesterday, that bad boy is finished! I don't even want to tell you what my pace was, but you can do the math from my total time. I'm not gonna lie - I was ready to die those last three miles. I walked for approximately half a mile at mile 16 then ran at a slow plod the rest of the way.
We had an unexpected day of weather in the 70's. (I say "unexpected" but not "surprised" because this IS Arkansas you know) While I very much enjoyed the warm weather the rest of the day, I'm glad we got our run over in the morning to escape the warmest part of the day. We've been training in temperatures at and below freezing for the last month and a half, and sudden temperature changes can wreak havoc on your endurance.
Overall, I consider it successful run because...the pepper spray never got called into action. You city folk may carry your pepper spray for protection against bad guys, but out here in the country we need it to deal with Cujo and his posse. Bet you've never actually used up a can of pepper spray - I've used two!!! We still saw plenty of dogs roaming about, but only nice ones.
I had a little muscle soreness, but nothing a couple of ibuprofen, a bottle of kombucha, a little rest, and season 2 of The Big Bang Theory couldn't take care of. My main side effect has been ravenous hunger. I think I've eaten twice my body weight since yesterday!
Next week is an easy distance of 12 miles...never thought those words would come out of my mouth!

I'm so impressed! I roller skated on Friday, does that count for anything?
ReplyDeleteUntil we started playing tag (still on skates) and I fell on my bootie. Still hurtin' from that one.
Works for me! It's been so long since I roller-skated I'm sure I'd do the same thing. Hey so can we plan another trip down there this spring for camping and diamond digging?
